Texas hold’em rules

Texas Holdem Rules - a descriptive pictureTo play Texas Hold’em you should really know the rules, if you don’t you could be getting into something that you aren’t prepared for. First of all you should know that this game is played with a normal 52 card deck that is shuffled all the time. The game is started with the two players to the left of the dealer putting a house determined amount of money into the pot before any cards are even dealt, this is to make sure that there is always something to bet on. Doing this is called placing the blinds, the first blind or the “small” blind puts up half of the minimum bet, the second blind “big” blind puts in the full minimum bet.

First betting round – two cards dealt

To start off with each player is dealt two cards which are called hole cards. Then betting starts; this is done when the player to the left of the two blinds places their desired bet. After that player bets then going clockwise around the table the other players can fold, call or raise. By the end of the game there will be five community cards, these are cards that can be used in conjunction with your two hole cards to make the best possible five card poker hand.

Second round – The flop

Following the first round of betting the Flop is laid out. This is done by the dealer placing three cards face up on the table. After the flop is put on the table another round of betting takes place, this time the betting starts with the player to the left of the dealer, the same person that put out the small blind. Something that changes during this round of betting and all of the following rounds of betting is that players can now bet, raise, fold, call or check. To check is to wait and see what the other players are going to do before you make your decision.

Third Round – the Turn

Next the Fourth Street or the Turn is put on the table. This is where the dealer lays out one more community card. After this card has been laid out on the table another round of betting comes along and is followed by the River (Fifth Street). Now comes time for final betting and to decide who the winner is . There are now seven cards for each player, and they must use them to make the best five card hand to beat all of the other players and the dealer.

Fourth Round – the River

After the River is on the table the final round of betting takes place, by the end of this round there are a couple of things that happen, everybody but one person could fold, which makes the last person winner or all players put their bets in and turn their cards up so that the winner can be found. Reading all of this information will not make you automatically a great Texas Hold’em player but it will help you to have an idea of what you are doing, so that you don’t go into playing this game with no clue.
